We have been actively participating in GEMEED and ECOW conferences since the creation of this two groups. Now that we have the opportunity to host the next meeting we are very happy to receive in Acapulco the mining community form the Pacific Rim.
Dear Mr. Abarca,
There is a big mining meeting in Acapulco and GEMEED will be one of the side activities of the main event. Could you explain the nature and relevance of the main event?
This year we celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Mexican Association of Geological, Metallurgical and Mining Engineers. This is a very important event since in 1951 the Association was born to reinforce the Mexicanization of the Mining Sector. We expect more than 5,000 people related to the mining industry from all over Mexico and from more than 20 different countries.
What importance does Mexico place on the Asia-Pacific Region regarding mining?
Mexico joined APEC in 1994 and because of our geographical position in the Northern part of the American Continent, it has been a priority for many years to diversify our international relations regarding trade, technology and foreign investment. We consider it is not recommendable for any country to rely on more than 80% of its commercial relations on only one country which is the case of Mexico with the United States.
Regarding the mining sector we need to diversify our industry with the main players in the Pacific Rim in order to increase our trade in minerals and to continue modernizing our industry.
How does Mexico participates in Asia-Pacific mining activities?
We have been actively participating in GEMEED and ECOW conferences since the creation of this two groups. Now that we have the opportunity to host the next meeting we are very happy to receive in Acapulco the mining community form the Pacific Rim.
