Hello all.
The concept of sustainability is the use and exploitation of the the Resources of today in such a way that the future generations do not have to compromise on fulfilling their needs.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes very difficult to decide whether this concept of sustainability can be extended to the mining industry. This is because mining means exploitation of economically feasable resources to the fullest extent possible owing to the mammoth demands of the developed and the developed countries alike.
However, there are certain measures that can be considered. For instance recycling of the waste that we generate everyday - has a good proportion of the minerals etc that we extract using mining. In most of the countries this waste more often then not, ends up in a landfill and is left there just like that.
So, a proper infrastructure and technology has to be devised in order to make the recycling of the minearls more ecnomic than the extraction procedure for the same amount of that mineral.
